Milky Way Silhouette.

The Milky Way shining brightly in the sky before the moon rises. We are lucky to live in an area where there so little light pollution, a few minutes out of town offers an incredible opportunity for star gazing.

Mother Bear

Xpisunt, Mother Bear clutches her cub on a cold wintery night in Gitwangak, BC. Pole of the Wolf, has endured in the Northwest since about 1895.

Battle Hill

Gitwangak Battle Hill National Historic Site under the wintery starry sky. I love the shadows of the trees on the side of the hill. "Legend says that the warrior Chief Nekt built the fortified village, which was occupied during the late 18th century and the early 19th century. It was from here that Chief Nekt was able to rule over the much desired oolichan trade routes along the Kitwanga River. The fort was defended by rolling spiked logs down on attackers. As guns grew more accessible the fort was no longer secure, and around 1835, the fort was burned and abandoned. The inhabitants of the fort moved to another village for a brief period of time before moving to the present-day village of Gitwangak."

Under the stars

There is something I love about old homesteads. This one is one of my favourite ones in our area. Buried in deep snow, and silent on a cold winters night, while stars twinkle softly in the sky. A still peacefulness.

Wintery Seven Sisters Night Sky

On of my favourite views in our area, the Seven Sisters Mountain Range. Seeing them on a clear night with stars twinkling and the milky way rising over the peaks is breathtaking. Please feel free to like, share or comment.

Aurora Band

A little bit of Aurora at Nisga’a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park. No sign of the lava buried under all that deep snow.

Gitwinksihlkw Night Sky

One of the four beautifully carved totem poles that stand at the corners of the bridge that crosses the Nass river to Gitwinksihlkw. This bridge is fairly recent (1995). Before this the only access to the village was over a 400ft suspension bridge or by boat.

Zodiacal Light at Kalum Lake

The Zodiacal light is a hazy pyramid of light extending up into the sky that happens an hour after dusk. It is caused by the suns light hitting dust particles in our solar plane. It occurs in the spring after dusk to the west, and in the fall before dawn to the east. This weekend is optimal viewing with the moonless nights.
